Today we are going to talk about a topic that is very important for us. Lion hunting in South Africa.
Maybe you have already heard about it and know how terrible this is.
Every year thousands of hunters who come from the USA or Europa travel to South Africa just to kill a lion. The "trophy" is brought back to their home then as a "souvenir".
Can you even try to imagine that? 200 farms in South Africa only have lions to sell them to trophy hunters later. About 1000 captive lions are killed in trophy hunt. Each year. The rate is getting higher and higher. Today the rate is fifty percent(!) higher than in 2010, about 6000 lions.
The most extreme kind of lion hunting in South Africa is called "Canned Hunting". Lions are in areas that are surrounded by fences. Tourists come and simply shoot them. Just for "fun". Well, we think this isn't fun, what it is cruel. Cruel, awful and unbelievable.
Even more unacceptable: everyone can do lion hunting in Africa. It is legal. You do not even need a hunting licence or experience.
Because of that lions don't die after the first shot, of course. They often have a very, very excruciating death.
The only thing you need to do is pay the money. The more you pay, the better the "souvenir".
But here is the only good thing in the article: We can do something.
If you support organisations that rescue lions, that are born to be killed for nothing, less lions die. Just because of you.
Search some organisations on the internet, there are really amazing ones!
We hope you enjoyed the article and you will support lion -rescue -organisations right now.
