Have you ever heard about the sinking of an oil tanker in the sea? Or in the ocean? We would be really surprised if you didn't.

Well, as you know, the fuel usage is bad regardless and we should definitely try to avoid them. Why?

Because there are a lot of terrible impacts on our planet's environment.

Petroleum, carbon, methane, benzene and so on are widely used even though they pollute the air, the seas and the places where we live, they overheat the Earth and kill a lot of animals. These are only some examples of the awful consequences they have on the planet.

But, let's go to the point of this article.

Today we want to focus our attention on the oil tankers and the petroleum they carry.

We already know that these ships set a course in our oceans and contain between 50 000 and 300 000 tons of oil.

You must know that, very often, some oil tankers sink. And with them, all the petroleum.

As you can imagine, this is not a good thing. Let's make a small list of what happens next:

- the petroleum has less density than the water (0.85 kg/l) so, it floats;

- floating, it blocks the exchanges between water and air that are necessary for the marine life;

- a lot of fishes die;

- some birds, which, for example, want to hunt some fishes, go on the lethal oil and die because (since the petroleum is sticky) they can't move anymore and they drown.

- some heavy particles of the oil can go down and the marine fauna will eat them;

- when people will buy those fishes, they will introduce into their body the same dangerous substances.

Now, this is what goes on when a ship sink, but let's check out if you know what happens when it goes on fire.

The fire burns the oil present in the structure and, as fuel, it produces a lot of black smoke that will pollute all the air. Remember that we are talking about tons and tons of petroleum.

So, this was a little resume of what happens when a single oil tanker sinks or burns. But you have to imagine these effects multiplied by lots of times. Because there are many oil tankers that go down or burn, not only one.

Before concluding, we want to add another information. Many of these polluting ships are washed while being in the sea. And where do you think the "dirty water" will be thrown? Well, obviously into the ocean! Where else?

The Earth is one. And we are destroying it. Where do we want to go next? There are not any other possibilities: we must save this planet. And we have to start from now. Open your eyes and change your habits. Go green!
